Agree with a lot that's been said on here. We never seem to be able to be comfortable with the ball, any team who can't have spells of possession of the ball for periods are always going to be up against it.

fraser - No he wouldn't, but I see a player that can barely do the mistakes and doesn't look a threat at all, and he's so slow, if you want to blame Moyes for that then you are just beyond debating with.

Steve and Manuel you are probably both right to an extent, Ings does look past it.. However a prime Ings wouldn't make a difference in Moyes set up

Manuel your right I do think it's mostly Moyes's fault.
Why would you buy a striker who have proven year after year what his game is, and then ask him 5o start running the channels and chase down lost causes because you are too stubborn to change style when its clear we weren't scoring enough goalshe is a tactical Dinosaur and his in game management suggests he hasn't got a fucking clue what he is doing. He is out of touch with the fan base and blames literally everyone but himself. He kills any morale that players have and play well you are dropped, continue to make errors, play well below par, here's the shirt it'd yours to lose. He cannot be blamed for individual errors etg but it doesn't help when you have 3 games in a week and he hardly changes the team. If it'd not fatigue, it's lick, if it's not the luck it's the ref., if it's not the ref it's us fans. The sooner he fucks off the better, thanks for the memories but fuck off.

Some excellent analysis here, particularly from Mex, daveyg and Sir Alf. If the likes of us can see it, why the fuck can't Moyes? I suppose the answer to that is that he's shot and incapable of changing his ways.

With Big Sam in charge the defence would have blasted the ball 50 yards up the pitch instead all acting like spastics in wheel chairs .

Do miss him at times.

But he didn't praise him he said he's been brilliant for the last few games, he hasn't and even you agree, that's all I said.

This is fucking Moyes for you though isn't it, getting on for 18 months of fucking absolutely abysmal turgid football, and those maybe 4 halves of decent play like an oasis in a desert.

So much relief that what was about 4 halves of decent football seems like we hit some form for a while but now we've returned to his negative shit, it sinks in what a tiny blip it was..

Sunday morning it may be but some muggy cunt just paid £1500 to go watch that shit :-)

He wasn't 'terrible' yesterday, he got his goal and put himself about, unlike the statue Ings, but obviously nobody was good yesterday. My point is someone dared give Antonio some praise and as usual you couldn't help but pull the poster up and have a dig. Just admit you have a bit of a hang up on the fella.

Re: ⚽ Crystal Palace v West Ham - Official Match Thread - Preview
Oh and if anyone had said about anyone of our players.being brilliant the last few games (before yesterday of course)

Other than Rice or Paqueta I would have said that was nonsense too, none of them have.. Ffs we were absolute shit for the whole away game vGent, shit for half hour against Arsenal. Shit until we scored in the 38th minute against Gent. Good against Bournemouth, but we still conceded possession, then shot against Liverpool and Palace

You must have a short memory if you have an issue with me disagreeing that Antonio has been brilliantl over the last few games.

Oh and I said Benrahma shouldn't start yesterday.

that paqueta substitution yesterday shows where his priorities lie. willing to sacrifice our most technically proficient player in favour of a lumbering carthorse that occasionally wins a flick on at a set piece

Re: ⚽ Crystal Palace v West Ham - Official Match Thread - Preview
Manuel - so you agree he hasn't been brilliant the last few games. Like I said to PDC he's been far from brilliant, he was very good against Arsenal for a half.
He was terrible first half against Gent, excellent second half.

He was terrible yesterday so explain to me why you disagree with me that he hasn't been brilliant for the last few games.

Moyes is still playing the long diagonal Everton ball. Not progressed in 20 years. Probably calls Aguerd unsworth every now and again

Re: ⚽ Crystal Palace v West Ham - Official Match Thread - Preview
Our only option when winning the ball at the back is to knock it up to Antonio, who just cant control it, and falls over. How many free kicks does this old donkey get? None really, the refs just jester him to get up. useless. And Bowen looks shot. cant take on anyone anymore.

The issue of what some call “Scoreboard fans” is often a problem.

A player gets a goal or an assist or two but is otherwise anonymous or abysmal in possession or behind the play etc

If a team has one or maybe even 2 players like that who regularly score or provide assists then you can understand them getting regular starts. Especially if that team has reasonable possession of the ball.

But look at a team that does not have possession. It’s not going to create much if anything from open play ( which is why we have always relied on set pieces under Moyes ). And players like Soucek, Benrahma recently and Antonio ( I’ll exclude For als as he’s played out of position although was anonymous ). These players were either invisible, miles behind the play ( too slow ) or simply don’t have the technique for the Premiership.

We regularly have 3 or 4 in the team. No wonder we struggle in this league and rely on set pieces or penalties etc

Moyes tactics ( if we can call them that ) are fundamentally flawed. In the Conference against lesser opposition we can keep it better but the manager spent 200 million on the wrong players too and just doesn’t see that the likes of Soucek, Coufal, Antonio, Cresswell, Fornals and Benrahma are for one reason or other going to mean you won’t keep the ball and you need to do this over a season to win more games than you lose.

The surprise element of the first season in COVID times has long gone. Teams know we counter and negate it so we are left with set pieces. Some teams struggle with them and we score against them but most can handle the set piece kings.

We are weak in midfield because Soucek is like being short of a player in there in terms of pressing and when trying to get passing and movement to break the high press. Antonio relies on holding it up from a long hall and is incapable with his touch and control of receiving it to feet and keeping it or laying it off accurately. Benrahma wasteful in the extreme and incapable of helping defensively, Coufal too slow for a full back or wing back and limited technical ability. Cresswell too old and slow, Fornals not a wide player and a waste of a starting place if played there.

There are others not up to it in any system but some also not suited to the primitive way Moyes sets up his teams.

New manager needed desperately and some better players in a few positions ( full backs and up front )

Above all that, Moyes doesn’t use 6 or 7 of the players we brought in. He is incompetent at best.

Swindon,
The thing is there are not many players that play the Moyes way now,the types of Coufal and Soucek he play direct football.
It would have been so much easier to get rid of Moyes before the WC. We hoof the ball forward and lose it straight away, Soucek is the main man in our team, don't pass to him but hoof it up for a headed knock on. It's terrible football.
For a game and a half we played through Rice and Paquetta.
feeding Antonio and Bowen. It was shocking to see how little of the ball Bowen received apart from punts upfield. Aguerd is a ball playing center back now all he does is hoof it forward.
We needed to rotate players through the last 2 games but haven't achieved this. Cresswell and Benrhama were awful.
Lanzini won't want to play now,he should but why play for tis cretin Moyes. This was a game for him, give Paquetta a rest. Rice needs to some time off but if Downes isn't used so he's not prepared. Fornals could be used as a replacement too.All these problems are down to Moyes, he's not pro active just reactive when it's to late.
We could be doing much better. Even Hodgson has seen the error of his negative ways at Palace and released their talent.
Moyes has to go NOW

I'd like to see some kids as well. I was disappointed that Mubama was not even on the bench. Moyes will be thinking it's too important to play any of them. Barcelona played a 15 year old yesterday. But no space in West Ham.

I just read a few reports, was dreading doing that. Surprisingly kind to us, just say 7 goal thriller, no great criticism of our awful play. Moyes blaming the soft penalty. I have to agree it was dodgy, Aguerds touch didn't look enough to bring him down, but of course he went down. You just cannot give that sort of opportunity.

To be fair Moyes also said we didn't play well enough in the whole game, which for me is an understatement. I cannot stand to see us every time we have the ball losing it so cheaply, well we just gave it back to them. I tried to see who was at fault, but it was everyone and continual. We were failing to play out of defense and the long balls were hit and mostly miss going back to Palace. Then when we tried to play though midfield, at some point a pass would go astray and ball was back to them. Usually we didn't get to the halfway line and we'd given them the ball back and they were coming at us again. Luckily we managed to get 5 corners and from those an incredible 3 goals. Really poor game. I don't need to see possession football, but just a high percentage of times we get the ball we should be capable to get it up to their penalty area before losing possession.

Palace, when they had the ball either know where to make the pass to find a player or actually pass to a player that receives and keeps the ball. We far to often passed to a space where our player was not ready to receive or was beaten to it by a Palace player. Same when we passed to a player. Why were we so useless at passing and receiving the ball. I think our players have the skill, but they come together and fail to do that.
